Well, hello again, friends! It’s been about a year since I last sat down to write here, and I’ve missed this little corner of the internet more than I can say. Life got full — new projects, new books, new seasons — but I’m back, and I couldn’t think of a better way to return than by talking about something that has brought me so much peace over the years: coloring.
Why Coloring Feels So Good
There’s something special about picking up a colored pencil and filling in a page. The world slows down. Your breathing settles. For a few minutes, the only decision that matters is whether the front door should be red or sunshine yellow.
That calm isn’t just in your head. When you color, your attention narrows to one simple, repetitive task — choosing a shade, staying (mostly!) inside the lines, watching a picture come to life. That kind of gentle focus gives a busy mind a break from worry, screens, and endless to-do lists. Many people describe it as a kind of mindfulness you can hold in your hands.
Coloring for Kids: More Than Just Fun
For children, coloring is play — but it’s also so much more:
- Calming big feelings. A coloring page can be a soft landing after a long school day or before bedtime.
- Building fine motor skills. Gripping crayons and pencils strengthens the little hand muscles kids need for writing.
- Boosting creativity. Purple grass? A rainbow roof? In a coloring book, there are no wrong answers.
- Practicing patience and focus. Finishing a page gives kids a real sense of accomplishment.
Yes, Grown-Ups Can Color Too!
Here’s the part I really want you to hear: coloring is not just for kids. If you haven’t picked up a coloring book since elementary school, I’m giving you full permission to start again.
Adults carry so much — work, bills, family, responsibilities that never seem to end. Coloring offers a few quiet moments that are just for you. No performance, no deadline, no one grading your work. Just you, your colors, and a page waiting to be filled.
A few ways adults can make coloring part of their self-care:
- Make it a ritual. Brew a cup of tea, put on soft music or a favorite podcast, and color for 15–20 minutes.
- Swap the scroll. Instead of reaching for your phone before bed, reach for your coloring book.
- Color together. Sit down with your kids, grandkids, or friends. It’s a beautiful way to connect without needing to talk the whole time.
- Let go of perfect. The point isn’t a masterpiece. The point is peace.

I’m so excited to share one of my favorites from Vibranistry Press: the Luxury Mansions Coloring Book, part of their Homes Across America Series.
This book is filled with grand, elegant mansions just waiting for your personal touch — sweeping staircases, stately columns, grand entrances, and beautiful architectural details to bring to life. Every page is an invitation to dream: What color would your mansion be? Would it have a bold front door? Lush gardens framing the driveway? Soft pastels, rich jewel tones, or classic black and gold?
With 51 intricate luxury mansions to color, you’ll have weeks of relaxing creative time ahead — one page at a time, at your own pace.
There’s something extra comforting about coloring homes. A home represents safety, warmth, and belonging — and spending time bringing those feelings to life on paper is relaxing in the sweetest way. It’s perfect for:

Your Invitation to Slow Down
So here’s my challenge to you this week: set aside just 15 minutes to color. Grab a book, a few pencils or markers, and give yourself the gift of a quiet moment. Invite your little ones to join you — or keep it all to yourself. Either way, you deserve that calm.
It feels so good to be back. I’d love to hear from you — do you color? What’s your favorite thing to color, and what colors are you reaching for these days? Drop a comment below and let’s chat!
Until next time, stay colorful. 💜
